KenKen Tournament

Tournament Information


Age Divisions:
Junior (born 1/9/09 or more recently)
Middle (born 1/9/06 – 31/8/09)
Senior (born on or before 31/8/06) – high school students only

Cost: FREE! (Students have the option to pay $20 for a KenKen puzzle book and a jumbo Kencil).


The competition is initially run in your school/college/centre (lasting approx. 1/2 hour depending on numbers). High-performing students will then have the chance to progress to national (competitors from all States welcome) and international finals. The 3 champion students will have the chance to go to New York in December 2020 or 2021 to compete against the world’s best puzzle solvers!!

Dates and venues for the 2020 finals will be published later in the year.


KenKen Australia is always available with email support, including sending you competition puzzles .

Registration: Register your school here to be eligible to compete in finals and receive prizes and support

School level: Student permission forms will be emailed to participating schools. These can be edited to suit your school’s usual format. Forms need to be retained by the school and names and book choices please forwarded to KenKen Australia.

Higher Levels: Registration and tournament details will be made available to successful students and their schools after the school level tournament is completed.


Student entry fees are to be collected by the school and forwarded to KenKen Australia. Payment details will be given to participating schools.

Tournament Puzzles:

Size: Junior (4×4, 5×5, 6×6), Middle (4×4, 5×5, 6×6, 7×7), Senior (4×4, 5×5, 6×6, 7×7, 8×8)

Quantity: 4-6 puzzles

Time: 20-30 min per round; final can be just one puzzle.
